Most nouns have a singular form and a plural form. The plural is formed in different ways.


               Ê   add s to most nouns.                             Ê  add es to  nouns that end in s, ss, sh, ch

                      y suitcase     suitcases                             y brush     brushes

               Ê   add es to nouns that end                         Ê  For nouns that end in f or fe, drop f or
                   in consonant + o                                    fe and add ves.
                      y mango       mangoes                                y thief    thieves

                      y tomato      tomatoes                               y dwarf     dwarves

                      y potato     potatoes                                y wife    wives
                      y hero     heroes                                    y hoof     hooves

                      y volcano      volcanoes                             y life    lives



               Ê   For nouns that end in a consonant + y,  Ê For nouns that end in vowel + y, add s.
                   drop y and add ies.                                     y day    days

                      y city    cities                                     y donkey      donkeys

                      y army      armies                                   y boy     boys

                                   We say fishes and fruits when we are talking about a variety
                                   or different types of fish or fruit.
