Time to write

          Rikki-tikki-tavi is told from the third person point of view. The author describes the happenings
          in the story to the readers using third-person pronouns such as he or she.

          When a story is told in the first person point of view, a character in the story serves as the
          narrator and uses first-person pronouns such as I and we.


          Now, get into groups and rewrite the story Rikki-tikki-tavi in the first person point
          of view. Pick one character from the story and write the story through that
          character’s eyes.

          You could choose from any of these characters from the story:

          •  Rikki-tikki-tavi                •  Teddy’s father                  •  Nag
          •  Nagaina                         •  Darzee                          •  Teddy

          •  Darzee’s wife                   •  Teddy’s mother

          You could start like this:

          That night, mum, my two siblings and I were sleeping peacefully in our burrow. Suddenly, water
          gushed rapidly into our burrow and soon we were floating away in the muddy water. My mother
          managed to save my siblings but I could not get hold of her tail and I got swept away.

          When I regained consciousness, I saw a huge English man pressing my chest. I choked on the
          flood water that came out as he pressed. The big man smiled at me. A little boy standing next to

          him seemed very elated. I liked him instantly…

          In the story, Rikki’s main enemies are two cobras named Nag and Nagaina. Find information on
