Read the lines from the poem and answer the questions that follow.

          1. Little shadows, little shadows

               Dancing on the chamber wall,

While I sit beside the hearthstone

Where the red flames rise and fall.

               a. Who is ‘I’?

               b. Why are the shadows described as little?
                     i. because they are formed at night

ii. because they are shadows of small children

iii. because they are formed by the light of the fire

iv. because the chamber wall is in front of it

               c. What do you understand by ‘red flames rise and fall’?

          2. Now what happens, now what happens?

               One small shadow's tumbled down:
I can see it on the carpet

               Softly rubbing its hurt crown.

               a. What happens to one small shadow?

               b. How does the speaker know that the shadow has hurt itself?

               c. Where did the shadow get hurt?
                     i. feet ii. hand iii. head iv. eyes
