Time to study language

You have learnt that a phrase is a group of words that makes some sense within a sentence.
For example,

• By early October, the rains were coming to an end.

• Binya’s umbrella was patched in several places.

A phrase does not contain a subject or a verb.

Now, read these groups of words.

• that Binya had left it behind.

• When she had ten paise in her pocket

These groups of words convey some meaning but not complete sense. But they contain a subject
and a verb.

A group of words that conveys some sense and contains a subject and a verb is called a clause.
