Warm-up
Correct these sentences.
I lives in my mother’s pouch. All mother kangaroos carries their
babies in their pouch. We lives in our mother’s pouch till we am
old enough to take care of ourselves.
My mother hop with me all through the day. Sometimes
I hops out, too, but I gets back into the pouch quickly.
In a sentence, the subject must agree with the verb. If the subject is singular, the verb
must also be singular. If the subject is plural, the verb must be plural. For example,
y He is a good dancer. (singular subject and singular verb)
y They were late for the party. (plural subject and plural verb)
Let us now study the rules of subject-verb agreement.
1. When the subjects are joined by and, we use a plural verb. For example,
y Jack and Jill are playing.
y India and Pakistan are neighbours.
y The tables and the chairs are made of wood.
