My Favourite Train Journey
Train journeys have always fascinated me. I am always up for a journey by train.
And, if you can travel by train with your friends—oh, what fun!
Every year, autumn break brings a short spell of freedom for us at school. With
the First Term exams over, it gives us respite from hard work for about a week or
ten days, and it also brings in news about the school excursion. All these years in
September, right from Class 1, I have wanted to go on one of those long, winding train
journeys with my friends. But Mum and Dad have never allowed me to go for these
out-station trips with my friends as they thought I was too tiny. However, this year I
have convinced them that I am grown up enough to take care of myself for a few days.
Mum and Dad have decided to let me go to Udaipur this year with my friends!
I was lucky to get the window seat. It was a day journey of around twelve hours
and there was a lot to see outside the window. The sight of green fields, long roads
and small sand hills fascinated me and I remained glued to the window for most
part of the journey. Before we went to sleep at night, we played dumb charades and
antakshari which was super fun. I just wished the journey would never come to
an end. However, before we even realised, we had reached the Udaipur station.
As I went around from site to site in the ‘City of Lakes’, I dreamt of the train journey
back to Delhi. Our train journey back home was also as much fun. We saw the
landscape change from sandy to a greener one as we approached Delhi.
As the train rolled into the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi, I saw
two happy faces trying to look for me—Mum and Dad! I was happy to see them.
I got off the train with the intention of telling Mum and Dad everything about
Udaipur and about my two very special train journeys with my friends. Before I
exited the station, I looked back once at the train and thanked it in my heart for such
a memorable experience.
