                Underline the verb and its object in each of these sentences. Some may not
                have any object.


                  1.  She cut the cake.
                  2.  Saif drove the car.


                  3.  We laughed merrily.

                  4.  She is writing a letter.

                  5.  The boy is eating a burger.

                  6.  The farmer grows wheat.

                  7.  Rohit changed the flat tyre.

                  8.  They voted for their leader.

                  9.  The artist painted beautifully.

                 10.  A greengrocer sells vegetables.

                 11.  She boarded the bus at 8:40 a.m.

                 12.  The children presented a bouquet to the teacher.



             In most sentences, the subject performs the action denoted by the verb.
             For example,

             y   They watched a film.
             y   The men built a pool.
             y   The boy ate five sandwiches.

                       When the subject does the action in a sentence, the sentence is said to be
                       in the active voice.
