A phrase is a group of two or more words functioning as a meaningful unit
within a sentence or a clause.
Kinds of Phrases
There are various kinds of phrases, but we will only study noun phrase, verb phrase,
adjective phrase, adverb phrase and prepositional phrase in this chapter.
1. Noun Phrases
When a phrase plays the role of a noun, it is called a noun phrase. For example,
y The stolen watch was recovered.
y I drank a glass of milk.
