A full stop is used
1. to mark the end of a declarative or an imperative sentence. For example,
y We went to the market to buy a few essentials.
y Do not walk on the wrong side of the road.
Question mark (?)
The question mark is used
1. at the end of an interrogative sentence. For example,
y Did you go to the film on Saturday?
2. at the end of a tag question. For example,
y You had breakfast, didn’t you?
Exclamation mark (!)
The exclamation mark is used
1. at the end of an exclamatory sentence. For example,
y What a lovely day!
2. at the end of an interjection. For example,
y Ouch! You stepped on my foot.
Comma (,)
The comma is used
1. to separate words/phrases in a list. For example,
y Please get some bread, milk, butter and cheese from the store.
y Prince, Priyanka, Ranveer and Maya are my friends.
2. before a coordinating conjunction in a compound sentence when both of its clauses
can stand alone as a complete sentence. For example,
y The game was over, but the crowd refused to leave.
y Yesterday was her brother’s birthday, so she took him out to dinner.
