Study this table to understand how interrogative sentences are changed into
the passive voice.
Active Voice Passive Voice
Do they watch television Is television watched by them

Who ate my chocolate? By whom was my chocolate eaten?
When will they announce the result of When will the result of the lucky draw be
the lucky draw? announced by them? (It is not necessary to
use ‘by them’.)
Why did your father punish you? Why were you punished by your father?
Did you see the thief? Was the thief seen by you?
Can an anaconda swallow a man? Can a man be swallowed by an anaconda?
Note
• In the active voice, the subject is the doer of the action.
• In the passive voice, the subject is the receiver of the action.
• An interrogative sentence retains its interrogative form when converted into
the passive voice.
