                       1 Letter to the Editor

A letter to the Editor is a letter sent to a newspaper or magazine about issues of
concern from its readers. Usually, letters are intended for publication.

Letters to the editor are written for the following reasons:
              1. To give suggestions on an issue of public interest
              2. To give suggestions on an issue already raised in an article/write-up/published
                  letter

              3. They form the most important part of interactive journalism—readers react to the
news item or articles to express their agreement or disagreement.
              4. Readers also write to the Editor to draw the attention of the authorities towards
problems that concern a large number of people.

How to write a letter to an Editor

              1. Begin with reference to a recent development/event/issue.
              2. Give details of the topic—bring out cause-effect relationship.

              3. Offer suggestions/solutions.
              4. Do NOT ask the Editor to solve the problem as he or she can only help you to
                  voice your views and ideas.
