Time to learn new words
You read an extract from Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse. The story is narrated by
Black Beauty, a horse that lives with his mother on a farm in England. Since the novel is narrated
in the first person and is an account of his life, we call the novel an autobiography. You also
read about Dadasaheb Phalke in an earlier chapter. It was a story of a person written by someone
else. Such a story is called a biography. The category into which a piece of writing is classified is
called a genre (say zhon-ruh). Apart from autobiographies and biographies, there are many
other genres.
Now, read the different genres of books and match each with its meaning.
