Let us understand the rules of changing a sentence from active voice to passive voice.
1. Change the object into the subject and the subject into the object. For example,
• The little girl lights up a match. (active)
A match is lit up by the little girl. (passive)
2. Change the verb to past participle form. For example,
• She sees a table full of wonderful things. (active)
A table full of wonderful things is seen by her. (passive)
• She saw a table full of wonderful things. (active)
A table full of wonderful things was seen by her. (passive)
• She is seeing a table full of wonderful things. (active)
A table full of wonderful things is being seen by her. (passive)
• She has seen a table full of wonderful things. (active)
A table full of wonderful things has been seen by her. (passive)
• She will see a table full of wonderful things. (active)
A table full of wonderful things will be seen by her. (passive)
3. Add the preposition by before the subject that has been placed after the verb. For example,
• The little girl touched the Christmas tree. (active)
The Christmas tree was touched by her. (passive)
