Time to write
The plot of a story is the sequence in which the events of the story unfold from start to finish. We
can also say that the plot of the story tells us the obstacles a character faces and how everything
culminates in the end.
Let us understand the elements of a plot. A plot typically has five elements. Let us learn
about them.
1. Exposition: It is the introduction of the story. It introduces the reader to the main characters
in the story, the setting and the main conflict. Conflict refers to the obstacles faced by the
main character.
2. Rising action: This part creates tension in the story. This is where the character is forced to
make a difficult decision.
3. Climax: This is at the peak of the story. Tensions are at the highest at this point. This is
where the main character faces a major enemy, fear or challenge.
4. Falling action: The story begins to slow down here. The main conflict is resolved and the
loose ends are tied up.
5. Resolution: This is the conclusion of the story’s plot. This is where the conflict is resolved.
The ending can be happy or sad.
This is how the plot of a story is represented.
