Time to study language

You have learnt that most sentences follow the subject−verb−object (S−V−O) pattern.
          For example,

          • How do you get a role model?
                                 S V O

In this sentence, the verb (get) requires an object (a role model) to complete its meaning. A verb
that requires an object to complete its meaning is called a transitive verb.

          Now, read this sentence.

          • Teachers and parents smiled.

                                 S V
In this sentence, the verb (smiled) does not have an object. A verb that requires an object to
complete its meaning is called an intransitive verb.

Some intransitive verbs can be changed into transitive verbs by adding suitable objects.
          For example,

          • Teachers and parents smiled at me.

                            S V O

          A. Be creative and add an object to the second sentence in each set. You may add more
               elements to complete the sentence.

               2. The museum opens early.
