Time to speak
Get into pairs. One person will have a blindfold on and the other person will act as
a guide. While you prepare to enact the roles, the rest of the class will rearrange the
furniture. The guide has to help the blindfolded person reach a vacant chair in the class.
The guide should use clear instructions so that the blindfolded person does not run

Time to write
A speech is a formal address, delivered to an audience by a speaker who seeks to convince,
persuade, inspire, or inform.
The purpose of a speech is:
• to convey information orally to a large gathering of people, forcefully and convincingly, and
convert listeners to the speaker’s point of view
• to pass on a wide range of information to a wide range of audience, orally
• to express an opinion, share a point of view/experience, observation, etc.
The format of a speech is given below.
• Opening statement (Greeting according to the time of the day)
• Main speech:
1. Statement of problem or main idea
2. Causes of the problem or important aspects of the main idea
3. Suggestions, solutions and the speaker’s point of view
• Closing statement
Chuskit wants to deliver a speech in the morning assembly on her first day of school.
