Preface
The third edition of English Spring 1 to 8 includes a Coursebook and a Workbook. It has been
comprehensively aligned with vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National
Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
An integrated language course for learners from the Foundational stage through Preparatory to the
Middle stage, this two-book course endeavours to acquaint young learners to
attain basic proficiency for meaningful communication through an integrated approach to the
teaching–learning process
acquire the skills and subskills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and thinking in an integrated
manner
communicate accurately, appropriately and effectively by using a wide-ranging vocabulary
use grammar, spelling and punctuation appropriately
enjoy and appreciate a variety of language/literary styles
communicate with a variety of audience through writing and/or speaking and develop interpersonal
communication skills
develop Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of critical thinking ability, creativity, logical
deduction, collaboration/teamwork, social responsibility, and so on
The coursebooks as well as workbooks include 4-5 thematic units that comprise stories, poems,
conversation, narrative and descriptive pieces. Themes such as friendship, wellness, sports, nature, art
and culture, etc. have been included. Cross-cutting themes, such as Indian Knowledge Systems, values,
heritage, gender sensitivity and inclusion have been integrated in all the units.
