A. Rakesh’s father thinks that only uneducated men become cooks. But Rakesh
disagrees with him. He writes a debate to speak against this idea in the
morning assembly at school. Read the debate draft given below and try to fill
in the blanks by recognising the various elements of the debate as explained
above.
‘In India, men in the kitchen was also a taboo’ (c)
( )
said the successful chef, Sanjeev Kapoor.
Respected Principal ma’am, teachers, and my dear friends, I,
Rakesh Bhushan of class VII stand here before you to talk about ( )
the common belief that only uneducated men become cooks.
A lot of people feel that men who were unable to succeed in life
settle for being cooks or chefs to earn their living. However, I
st
strongly feel that it is not so. This is the 21 century and holding ( )
such a viewpoint is extremely stereotypical. I stand before you to
express my views against this idea.
Let’s talk briefly about some real-life examples. Have we not seen
the brilliant cooks at most of the dhabas, and restaurants? Do we ( )
not admire the talent of our regular momos and vada-pav bhaiyas?
We all marvel at the talent of chefs like Sanjeev Kapoor and
Vikas Khanna. People watch their shows with great enthusiasm
( )
and interest. Then, how can we still believe that only uneducated
men become cooks?
I honestly think that we must recognise that it is not about
opting for something just because every other door has closed.
( )
Sometimes, it is simply about following our passion and interest
over what others think might be suitable for us.
The world would indeed be a better place if people learnt to
( )
follow their hearts by using their minds.
Thank you. ( (h) )
