We use
Ê and: to join two words or ideas that are similar. For example,
y I went to the mall and bought a new dress.
Ê but: to join opposite ideas. For example,
y She is tall but her sister is short.
Ê or: to give a choice or an option. For example,
y Do you want to go to the mall or to a restaurant?
Ê because: to give a reason. For example,
y Latha was late for work because she had an accident.
A. Use and, but, or or because to join these sentences.
1. I ate quickly. I was getting late.
2. Walk fast. You will be late.
3. Sid went to the stadium. He wanted to practise football.
4. My mother went to the neighbourhood market. My mother bought vegetables.
5. You can go by car. You can go by bus.
6. I like to play football. I do not like to play cricket.
7. We went to the park. We played on the swings.
8. Hold your mother’s hand. You will get lost in the crowd.
9. I cried. I was hurt.
10. It is hot during the day. It is quite cool at night.
11. I would like to have a cottage by a lakeside. I would like to have a cottage
by a beach.
12. My grandpa sat on a chair. He began to read the newspaper.
13. I ran fast. I did not win the race.
14. She bought some dress material. She gave it for stitching.
15. I was happy. We were going to see a film.
