5 Writing a Dialogue
A dialogue is a conversation between two or more people.
Let us read a dialogue between Selina and Umar. They are on their way to the market.
Selina: Hi Umar, are you ready?
Umar: Yes, I am just looking for the keys to my bicycle.
Why don’t you come in?
Selina: It is bright and sunny out here. Oh, come on and
hurry up, Umar!
Umar: Yes, let’s go! You are right—it is a beautiful day.
I am glad it is also a Sunday.
Selina: So am I! Now, let’s go and get the things we want, from the market.
Umar: Mum wants mangoes, a pumpkin, some drumsticks and some toothpaste from the
market. What about you?
Selina: Well, my mum wants me to get a dozen eggs, some tomatoes, some mangoes,
some good lemons and some flour for her. She even gave me some extra money for some
kulfi for us!
Umar: That’s great!
Now, complete the following dialogue on your own.
Ruchi: Hey, Saira! Where are you off to?
Saira: Hi Ruchi!
