Fill in the blanks with the correct form of the verbs in the brackets.

We have learnt that a singular verb needs a singular subject
A plural verb needs a plural subject. For example,
• The tree is tall.
• The trees are tall.
The rules for subject and verb agreement are listed.
1. When two singular subjects are joined by the conjunction and, the verb is plural.
For example,
• The Meenakshi Temple and the Thyagaraja Temple are in Tamil Nadu.
• My cousin and I are going to watch a film.
• Singing and dancing are her hobbies.
2. If two singular subjects are joined by and, but refer to the same person or idea, the
verb is singular. For example,
• Rice and fish is the staple diet of people in Kerala.
• Bread and egg is good for breakfast.
