3. Prepositions of Direction: They indicate the direction of something. The
prepositions to, over, up, down, up to, across, along, around, under, into, onto,
right, left, through, towards and off, are prepositions of direction. For example,
• I go to school every day.
• The diver jumped into the pool.
• We took a ferry to go across the river.
• The train went through the tunnel.
• We are going over a bridge.
• They walked along the beach.
• We drove around the city for two hours.
• The drive down the hill was amazing.
• The cat jumped onto the sofa.
• They were coming towards us.

Get into pairs. Your partner will give you a sentence related to a classroom
situation, using a preposition. You have to draw the image. For example,
• There is a flower pot on the teacher’s desk.
• There is a pen under the second table in the left row.
Exchange roles. You can use a different picture or situation to practise your
prepositions.
