Notice Writing
A notice displays information about an important event that has happened or is about
to happen. It is publicly displayed—you are passing on information for others to
know and follow.
When you write a notice, you must remember these points:
1. It should have a catchy caption—preferably a phrase and not a sentence.
2. It should have all details (what, why, where, when, who) in order of importance
and it should be in crisp short sentences.
3. Use impersonal language.
4. Use passive voice as far as possible.
5. Use of the first person, i.e., ‘I’ and use of the second person, i.e., ‘you’ should
be avoided.
This is a sample notice telling members of the staff in a school about the new
