There are different kinds of subordinating conjunctions.
♦ Time: before, after, till, until, since, when, while, as, whenever
y The train had arrived before I reached the station.
y I reached the station after the train had left.
y You’ll have to wait till you are called in.
y I have taught her since she was 10 years old.
y They kept swimming until the swimming pool was closed for the lunch break.
y When she came, her mother was cooking food.
♦ Reason/Cause: because, since, as, now, whereas
y He was punished because he hadn’t done his homework.
y As it was dark, we decided to walk slowly and carefully.
y I couldn’t contact him since he was absent.
♦ Place: where, wherever
y He hid the treasure where no one could find it.
y We will stop wherever we find a dhaba.
