Modal Auxiliaries: shall, will, should, would, can, could, may, and might.
                  Negative form of the above auxiliaries: shan’t, won’t, shouldn’t, wouldn’t, can’t,
                  couldn’t, mayn’t, and mightn’t, respectively.

                  Modal Auxiliaries: must, dare, need, and ought.

                  Negative form of the above auxiliaries: mustn’t, daren’t, needn’t, and oughtn’t,
                  respectively.
                  Note: Although the negative contracted form aren’t is accepted for am not, it is
                  better not to use it.

                  Common mistake: The possessive of the pronoun it is its, not it’s. It’s is used
                  only for either it is or it has. Hence, the following sentence is incorrect:

                  •  The dog was feeding it’s puppies. (It should be its.)

              B.  Choose the correct option in each case.

                  1.  His (wifes/wife’s/wifes’) bag was full of curious little items.

                  2.  Ritu went to her (mother-in-law/mother-in-law’s/mother-in-laws’) house for
                     lunch yesterday.

                  3.  Visitors are not allowed to enter (Mr Harris’s/Mr Harris/ Mr Harris’) office
                     without permission.


                  4.  The (girls/girl’s/ girls’) sincerity and hard work was appreciated. (one girl)
                  5.  The (men’s/mens/mens’) section is on the second floor.


              C.  Change the phrases into possessive noun phrases by using an apostrophe.

                  For example,

                  This is the shoe of the boy.

                  This is the boy’s shoe.

                  1.  Deepika is the daughter of Prakash Padukone.

                  2.  This is the house of Jayshree and Sunitha.

                  3.  Please return the book of Ramesh.

                  4.  The school project of Indrani is incomplete.

                  5.  They have booked the ticket of Tarini for the cruise.
