Demonstratives
Demonstratives, such as this, that, these and those, require a frame of reference in
which an individual can point out the entities referred to by a speaker or a writer. For
example,
• Do you want this piece of chicken?
• I don’t want to go to that movie.
C. Complete the following sentences by filling in the blanks with suitable
demonstratives.
1. glass here is mine, but one over there is his.
2. books here are hers, but over there are mine.
3. She can’t eat all of popcorn.
4. Look at mess!
5. kind of selflessness is rare.
6. I found earring under the bench. Is it yours?
7. pastries are delicious, Shanta. May I have another?
8. I can’t finish projects today. I’ll work on them tomorrow.

Quantifiers
Quantifiers, such as all, few, and many, point out how much or how little of
something is being indicated. For example,
• He t ook all the books.
• Few of the children wanted to go to the zoo.
Possessives
When referring to an entity that belongs to another, you can use possessives.
For example,
• Is this your car?
• The dog growled and showed its teeth.
