Time to learn new words

          A natural disaster is a sudden and terrible event in nature that usually results in serious
          damage and many deaths.


          Given here is a list of natural disaster vocabulary terms. Match each with

          its meaning.


             1.    earthquake             a powerful storm containing strong winds and rains

             2.    hailstorm              a period of time such as a few weeks when the weather is
                                          much hotter than usual

             3.    cyclone                a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall, leading to a
                                          shortage of water


             4.    avalanche              a sudden heavy fall of hail

             5.    drought                a very strong stream of wind carrying a lot of snow

             6.    dust storm             a very high sea wave which is caused by an earthquake

             7.    tsunami                a strong, turbulent wind which carries clouds of fine dust,

                                          soil, and sand over a large area

             8.    volcanic eruption violent trembling of the ground caused by the movement of
                                          parts of the Earth’s crust

             9.    snowstorm              a huge amount of snow sliding down the slope of a mountain


           10.     heat wave              the release of lava from the volcano
