You have learnt sentences are of four kinds—declarative, interrogative, exclamatory and
imperative. Declaratives sentences can also be positive and negative.
Let us now learn to change sentences from one kind to another without changing the meaning.
• Mohanchand is taller than me. (positive)
I am not as tall as Mohanchand. (negative)
• Dashu is the naughtiest boy in the class (positive)
No other boy in the class is as naughty as Dashu. (negative)
• Who can bear such an insult? (interrogative)
No one can bear such an insult. (declarative)
• Everyone loved Dashu. (positive)
No one disliked Dashu. (negative)
• Everyone loves Dashu. (declarative)
Who does not love Dashu? (interrogative)
• He is always on time. (positive)
He is never late. (negative)
Now, change the sentences as instructed.
1. He is the cleverest boy in the class. (Change to negative.)
2. Who can deny the truth? (Change to declarative.)
3. It was not easy. (Change to positive.)
