B. Complete the story with the simple present form of the verbs in the brackets.
A Town Mouse once (visit) her cousin who (live) in the
country. For lunch the Country Mouse (serve) wheat stalks, roots, and
acorns, with a dash of cold water for drink. The Town Mouse (eat) very
sparingly. She (nibble) just a bit of everything. She (tell) her
cousin that she (eat) simple food.
After the meal, the cousins (chat). The Town Mouse (talk)
about her life in the city and the Country Mouse (listen). They then
(go) to bed and (sleep) until morning.
The next morning, the Town Mouse (leave) for the town. She
(invite) the Country Mouse to her home, and the Country Mouse gladly
(accept) the invitation.
When the Country Mouse (reach) the Town Mouse’s
home, she (find) the leftovers of very fine banquet.
Just as she (bite) into a dainty slice of pastry, she
(hear) a Cat mew loudly. The Country Mouse
and the Town Mouse (scurry) to a hiding
place. They (stay) still for a while, hardly
breathing. But when they (decide) to
venture out, the door (open) suddenly
and the House Dog (trot) in.
