Structure of Present Continuous Tense
1. Declarative sentence
Subject Verb
I am playing.
He, She, It, Christina is playing.
We, You, They, Rina and Tina are playing.
2. Negative sentence
Subject Verb
I am not playing.
He, She, It, Christina is not playing.
We, You, They, Rina and Tina are not playing.
3. Interrogative sentence
Verb Subject Verb
Am I playing?
Is he, she, it, Christina playing?
Are we, you, they, Rina and Tina playing?
Uses of Present Continuous Tense
We use the present continuous tense
1. to talk about actions that are happening at the moment of speaking. For example,
y We are learning English now.
y They are reading their books.
2. to talk about activities continuing only for a limited time. For example,
y He is staying with his uncle for a week.
y I am going to be in Chicago for a few months.
3. to talk about future plans. For example,
y I am going to New York next week.
y We are meeting at the mall.
