Let’s learn to make a simple wind vane.*
You will need
• a pencil with an eraser on top • straw
• card paper • a pin • plasticine
Method
• Cut the shape of an arrowhead and tail from the card paper. The arrowhead has to be
larger than the tail.
• Stick the arrowhead and the tail to each ends of the straw.
• With the help of an adult, push
the pin through the centre of
the straw into the eraser on the
pencil. The straw should be able
to spin freely.
• Roll the plasticine into a ball
and place it firmly on the railing
of your balcony where there is
blowing wind.
• Now, push the free end of the
pencil into the ball of plasticine
so that the pencil stays vertical.
• Now, stand back and observe the
movement of the wind vane to
understand which way the wind is blowing.
