Second Fairy: Betsy is catching on to our secret.

Fairies: It’s time to go! (As Fairies exit, Betsy busies herself at table with crayons

and paper. After a pause, Mrs Button enters.)

Mrs Button: Hello, Betsy. What are you doing?

          Betsy: Wait and see, Mother.

Mrs Button: Is it a secret?

Mrs Button: What are you going to buy?

Betsy: I can’t tell. You will have to wait and see.

Mrs Button: Then run along, and hurry back. Daddy will soon be home. (Betsy

          Mr Button: Where is Betsy?

Mrs Button: She has gone to the store.

          Mr Button: What for?

Mrs Button: I don’t know. She just said: Wait and see! catching on: understanding
