Second Fairy: Betsy is catching on to our secret.
Fairies: It’s time to go! (As Fairies exit, Betsy busies herself at table with crayons
and paper. After a pause, Mrs Button enters.)
Mrs Button: Hello, Betsy. What are you doing?
Betsy: Wait and see, Mother.
Mrs Button: Is it a secret?
Betsy: Mother, you’ll just have to wait and see. (Rises and puts her paper work in
her pocket.)
Mrs Button: Where are you going?
Betsy: I would like to go to the store. May I, Mother?
Mrs Button: What are you going to buy?
Betsy: I can’t tell. You will have to wait and see.
Mrs Button: Then run along, and hurry back. Daddy will soon be home. (Betsy
exits right; Mr Button enters left.)
Mr Button: Where is Betsy?
Mrs Button: She has gone to the store.
Mr Button: What for?
Mrs Button: I don’t know. She just said: Wait and see! catching on: understanding
